Flippin' heck! NFU renewal!

That's why I do not insure anymore..... I have funds in case of a hefty vets bill and I put away £40 a month to increase the fund. For me this is far better than the lengthy battles in claiming and I know the money is there because I've saved it. I could write a book on the nightmare in claiming and you must read the small print. I know this doesn't work for everyone but saving for vets bills myself and being a Gold Member of the BHS is the best thing I've done in the last year and I wish I had done it sooner....

mine went up this year to over £300 before our current claim, and now we've had £5000 out of them i think it may go up again dramatically. She's 15 in january so think that might push it up further. :( its all very well putting it in a pot but if we hadn't got insurance and had that 5k vet bill the "pot money" wouldn't have even scratched the surface.

I just got mine through - £750!!!!!! - thats more than my car and house isurance together! Was £480 last year.

I have had a claim this year to be fair, and they have paid out with out hassle. So I can't fault them on that, but I can't pay more than £250 extra either, especially as following the navicular, DDFT etc etc diagnosis he is not worth anywhere near what he was (funny though they would know this but they have still quoted based on the orginal value)

I will shop around based on insuring on a lower value and see if that helps (to me he is priceless!)

We've just had our car ins renewal through. We have two 4x4s (a Disco and a Hilux), both over ten years old, we're both over thirty, never had any points, never had any accidents, never claimed for anything, been with NFU for years......They want nearly a GRAND to insure our cars!!!

I phoned and asked if it was a joke. They knocked £30 off the Hilux and then gave me a long list of reasons why they are more expensive, Uk only call centres, free certificate replacement, blah blah blah.

We will move the Disco at least.

Ive just swapped too, my NFU premium went up £17 a month despite being claim free for the last 4 yrs. I asked my vets which to avoid and who they reckonned were good and hassle free and they reccomended KBIS, NFU and Petplan. Petplan were dearer than NFU!!, KBIS were cheaper but I also reduced his value to £1000 :( and increased my excess to get the premium down. They have put 2 exclusions on which I expected.
Horsebox insurance is with NFU too and thats gone up £6 a month which isnt too bad. I must ring around though.

I only insure for vet fees. I have public liability insurance through a breed society.

My older 3 are with petplan, they are brilliant. If you insure before the horse is 20, you get full vet fees cover until age 25. Which is good as my veteran has been diagnosed with cushings. They have also paid out hassle free on my mare for colic surgery, sarcoids, pastern dermatitis, a leg injury and endometritis in just 18 months!

My foal is with kbis, only because pet plan wanted a 2 stage vetting, which would push the cost of the policy up to silly amounts.
