I've got my horse at a rather large yard where all the stables are rubber matted, I'm in an American barn but my stable keeps flooding, they redid the drains cause this was a regular occurrence but now everyone but my stable seems dry. I've checked the water drinker, and the roof drips a tiny bit, so I can only assume it's wee. The mats don't fit that well but still it shouldn't be as wet as it is. I'm going to try shavings as the straw isn't great but is there anything I can put under the mats to help?

If you put something under the mats the fluid - whatever it is - will stay there and form a breeding ground for all kinds of crud. Try a more absorbent bedding. Straw isn't very absorbent, if at all. Are you able to switch to shavings or wood pellets? You need to sop up the fluid and get rid of it. Not find another way for it to linger!

If this is wee have you thought to have your horse blood tested? Some are wetter than others and you don't say if this is normal for your horse or not? If he has suddenly started producing more urine than normal there might be a medical condition you need to get checked. On the other hand if he is just a wet one then you need more bedding!

I took all the mats up last month disinfected it and left it to dry for a week, hers has always been a bit of a **** for flooding cause I think the wee comes in from the stable next door.

If you're getting wee in from next door then the only real option is either to seal your stable so it can't get through or to put in enough absorbent bedding so you can take it out -although the latter is expensive! Can you speak to your YO and see if you can move stables?

I have been waiting for a stable to come up as pretty full at the mo. I do like my stable in every other way as have a nice set up in there. How could I seal it? It's not a very big gap so shouldn't be too hard x

I changed from shavings to chopped straw (bliss bedding) on rubber matting, as I found stables where getting very wet and a bit smelly. It has really helped as it's much more absorbent. Only need to take the wet out once a week now and one of mine (mare) wee's a lot. Not sure about sealing the mats, haven't needed to with mine.
