TUrned the three horses out about 8am as usual. OH working from home so about all day. Horses in a field not in view, but only about 20 yards from the back door.

Brings them in about six....and surprise - instead of the rambo rug and neck cover FLora was wearing this morning - she is completely naked.

OH heads off up the field with torch and comes back with the rug.

ALL THE FASTENINGS EXCEPT THE FILLET STRING ARE STILL DONE UP!!!!!

Didn't she have a fun day trying to wiggle out of it.

Silly cow - it had rained all afternoon so she was v cold and soggy. Fortunately I have a pure wool sheepskin numnah, so tacked her up and took her in the school for an hour. She was nice and warm and nearly dried off by the time we finished.

I had been going to clip her last weekend, but ran out of time. If I had she would prob have caught pneumonia.

Anyone else's horses wiggle out of rugs??

Only one! We bathed my daughter's GREY 11.2 years ago for a PC games competition, where they had a tack and turnout comp...

.... and as it was early spring, turned him out overnight in a full-neck rug.

Went down in the morning and found - one very dirty, very smug pony standing next to his rug. Rug all done up, no marks on it, no rips, and of course no mud. Too late to rebathe him, so did what we could and loaded him.

Part Shetland, part houdini...

Yup, my girl went through a phase of doing this, and we had leg straps!

Was it just the once, or a regular thing. I have owned Flo for over three years and she doesn't even take off a plain cooler in the stable, so I could hardly believe it.

I was beginning to think that someone had stolen the rug off her, as she is the only one of the three who would go up to a stranger.

Our old Appy did it regularly, whenever she decided she was too hot in it. She never watched the weather forcast and would end up cold and wet. The new Appy has done it once in three years, no guarantee she won't do it again.

Oh Fiona that is so funny! As long as she was unhurt I doubt she'll do it again, too much hard work!

I arrived at the yard one day to see one of the horses standing like a member of the Klu Klux Chan! Half his rug was right over his head and the belly staps were half way down his front legs! I think one of the other horses had taken hold of the top of the neck section and pulled and he then pulled back, so sort of tug of war going on. He was an abolute angel when I went in to sort it, but he did look a bit sheepish, like I'd caught him out having a bit of a hooley!

Once we had checked her legs, and she had no cuts, and no mud splatted tummy (sign of galloping around) I started to see the funny side of it.

It must have come off over her head when the fillet strap came undone, I wonder did one of the other two give it a "helping hand".

Might go down and ask the peeps next door did they see her "in the act".

My boy used to do this. He used to dump them in the spring at the bottom of the field. I had 2 so while one was drying out i'd stick the other one on him the next day.
He did this almost every day and by spring they were both wrecked (he also used to paw at them and rip them to shreds!). I decided he obviously didnt want to stay nice and warm and dry so I gave in and dont rug him up anymore. He is very fluffy this winter. Looks like a big teddy bear!

My boy did that once when I forgot to do up the fillet string. Although unlike yours, he was fully clipped however he didn't seem too bothered, he had plastered himself in thick mud!! It was a Rambo T/O with the V neck fastening in front. I don't know how he managed it but I mentioned to the lady who worked in the horseware shop and she said it's not uncommon. Whatever way the V neck fits, it allows quite alot of freedom and if they roll and wiggle around alot they can just slip it over their head! The nylon lining is also quite slippy so while it prevents rubbing it does slide off them easily. That's why the fillet strap at the back is so important, they can't do it once that's closed.

Oh yes they can! Although to be fair it wasn't a rambo, but Nellie could get out of anything if she wanted and the fillet string was no obstacle to her!

My friend's wee 12.2hh has wrigged out of her rambo a few times. Because she's fully clipped, she wears that with a fleece underneath, but i think that particular weekend she was just too hot. I went down to the field to put it back on her and she wouldn't catch, little b*gger. Anyway, she goes out with a surcingle over it now, but I think she just sees it as more of a challenge lol!

Yeah i had a girl riding my pony for a while. i went down to his field one morning and as I walked down, saw he had no rug on, and with him being clipped an dit had frozen that night, I was furious as I thought said girl hadnt put rug on! Anyway, rang her and had a go, but she insisted she had put it on....got into field, and found said rug perfectly flat on the ground with all starps still done up

It was very annoying!! especially when it was chucking it down and I had to drag half a ton of soaking wet rug up a hill!
I threatened to call the knacker man several times that particular winter!!

It just about dried out overnight, so I tied the fillet string so that it can't become unclipped and turned her out in it again today.

Its really cold here now, so I hope she hasn't tried it again!!

Never realised it was such a common trick though!

Its possible that if the fillet string came undone and a huge gust of wind took the rug forwards that it could have been easy for her to slip it off over her head..

I saw a video of that once (maybe youtube) and it was quite funny!!
