I have recently just got myself a florencio mare, and was wondering what you guys think of him as a dressage stallion? So far shes proving a delight, but ive heard they can be sharp... Shes 5 yrs old, just recently broken as shes bred a foal in Holland, shes also 17hh, so want to know if shes likely to prove a lot of horse.

Also are there any stallions you would suggest would cross well with her?

Cheers xx

I have a Foal out of Fabregas who is by Florencio & she is an absolute dream, very level headed but a real mover. I havent heard about sharpness tbh.

Out of interest who is the Dam of your horse?

Shes out of a mare called Coeur d'or, who is by Bachelor (Burggraaf)... Shes very pretty, big eyes and quite an arab type face... She was competed in foal classes back in Holland and did well. She can be nervy, but I think thats more her quirk rather than a genetic thing, lol.

I've got a Florencio mare, she's fab! 6 years old and so much talent! We now compete at Medium-Advanced dressage.
She isn't sharp at all, acts more like a native. So sweet!

I would keep to the German/Dutch bloodlines if you are thinking of breeding with her.

I quite like seeing Florencio crossed onto the D line, Donnerhall directly (like Floriscount) or saw some nice foals from De Niro mares this summer and also from Akzent mares. Friend of mine has a cracking Florencio x Prince Thatch mare. But all the ones I have seen have been Hanoverian or Oldenburg so cant comment on the influence of your mares dutch dam line

Due to the snow i havent ridden her for 2.5 weeks, as soon as the menage defrosted i decided to ride her, no lunging as there were still patches of ice where shed have to go on the lunge, but avoidable when ridden, i got straight on, she put her back up for a split second, then relaxed straightaway... Not bad to say she was broken in july and missed about a month of work due to a run in with an electric fence ( she wasnt mine at the time), she then had very light work until around a month and a half ago... Im very pleased with her so far... Just heard some stories about florencios, but it seems there are far more horses like she is at the moment, than the nutcase horrors.

I was in touch with elite stallions and the suggested De Niro as a potential "boyfriend"... I planned to breed from her before she showed her true colours! She feels super now shes learning to balance her large, gangly frame...

Thanks for the feedback so far... Id love to hear more stories about your florencios
