Have just read in todays (Saturday) Irish Field, that Florida Pearl, one of the best NH horses in recent history, not to have won a Gold Cup, has been poorly this last week, and unfortunately scans seem to have pointed out that he has cancer. The managers of the Irish National Stud, have said that he is eating grass at the moment and he will be monitored very closely. He is now 20 years old and has spent his retirement there, anyone who has visited the stud will have seen him and how well he was looking. My thoughts are with him and all who have been involved with this wonderful horse over the years

I was very sad to read this. He's a wonderful horse, and was a great racer.
I hope they can save him, but if not, at least he's in good hands and has been given a long and happy retirement.

I heard he wasn't well and it did sound as if this might be the problem. I think we can all be absolutely sure he will be fantastically well looked after and all the right decisions taken.

Wonderful horse.

Have been reading into today's Racing Post, his condition is untreatable, and all they can do is keep him comfortable, and monitor him. He appears happy at the moment, but it seems this condition is fast moving, and therefore, obviously they will take the appropiate action when necessary.
I am so sorry to hear this, in fact it brought tears to my eyes. he is a grand horse, and indeed a huge favourite of mine. I hope he continues to enjoy life while he can, and is kept comfortable, which I know he will be. Very, very sad news altogether.

Im so sad to hear this latest news, its been rumoured last week that he was pts but they issued a statement saying he wasnt well.

I have many fond memories of Florida Pearl who when spot on was a formidable racehorse and always gave of his best.

He is well looked after and that is some comfort knowing that they will do whats right for him.
