Just had my new horse vaccinated. I have had to restart vacs as previous owner 'mislaid' the vaccination certificate.

So 1st jab of primary course given today and I was expecting vet to say 2nd jab due in 4 - 6 weeks (28 - 42 days) but said can be done anytime within 21 - 92 days.

Having googled it I have found that manufacturers recommendations state 28 - 42 days but Jockey Club and FEI say anytime between 21-92 days.

And just to confuse matters further the tetanus part of the jab is due in 28 days (recommended).

So what is right???

I usually advise clients to book in straight away for 4 weeks time. If it goes longer its fine though. Go with 4-6 weeks.

The only thing I would say is that, if you intend to compete at things where they are likely to check your vac cert, don't have the initial vaccs done on the 1st/last days allowed, ie 21/92 days, as it can lead to checkers querying your cert.

I know those dates are allowed, but we have one horse in our RC done on day 21, and every year at Area qualifiers it is flagged up as a query, and every year we have to go through it with the checker until it passes (just trying to save you some hassle).
