Hi,

Just wanted to know the length of time (weeks/months) from when you have the 1st vac done to the 2nd vac and then the 3rd and what reaction could a horse have to the injection(s). Would it be ok for a horse to travel straight away having had vacs. I won't want a fall in the horse box whilst in transit.

Many thanks.

21 to 92 days between 1st and 2nd
150 to 215 days between 2nd and 3rd

Reactions are unusual and I've never known anyone to advise against travelling after vaccination, in the old practice I worked at it was routine for people to bring horses to the surgery to be vaccinated to reduce call out fees :)

The second vaccine is 6 weeks after the first one and the 3rd one is 6 months after the second one. Then its yearly after that. As far as I know you can travel straight after the vaccs but check that with someone else first as I dont know for sure. I know your not meant to ride until 24hours later

agree with this, many people ride to our practice-some dont even get off why some of the vets vaccinate (not a personal recommendation) and off they go home again
