Hello. I've just realised that my horse is 3 months overdue for his flu jab. He is kept on his own and is healthy. Will he need to start with the 3 jabs he had at the start or can I just do his annual booster 3 months late ? Thanks in advance.

The main problem with giving the jab late is that if you go to any competition or other place where they want proof of vaccination they will not accept the certificate as valid.

I would say you def need to restart unfortunately. 3 months is a little too long to ensure proper cover I think.

I went a month overdue with my mare's last year, and an equine vet friend of mine who is highly experienced said that was no problem at all, but not to leave it much longer.

Echo also what others say about the competing side of things.

From an official perspective, if you want to compete you will have to restart.

In terms of cover, the only way to know is to check the horse's titre, all horses are different so you just can't generalise. It'll probably just be easier to start over unfortunately as to the best of my knowledge there isn't a organised system of titre checking to fall back on.
