My horse had his yearly flu jab on Monday - never had any problems with it before but last night he seemed quite down in himself. Lethargic, quiet - not his usual rowdy self! He was eating, drinking and going to the toilet as normal. This morning he seemed a bit brighter but for some reason seems reluctant to put his head down i.e., when eating his breakfast and having his snackball. After 30 seconds or so he is fine - I have checked him over and nothing seems to be obviously wrong?? Any ideas.......

my horse when had his annual injections usually goes slighly lame and cn not move his neck side to side for about three days after that he his usally fine i think some time when they stab the horse they must catch a nerve or a muscle and bruise it but you know how much your artm aches when you have a jab your self leave it for three days if no better call the vet for some advice!

Thanks very much Babybells, I was hoping it would be related. I will keep a close eye on him over the next couple of days and if still concerned I will get the vet out.

My TB had his jabs last week and was a little under the weather and went lame for 3 days and then came sound miraculously (after some TLC and box rest!). I'd keep an eye on him like you say but I'm sure it'll be fine.....

My vet always advises to give the horse the day of the injection plus 2 more days off so I'd just give your boy a day or two more of tlc and then bring him carefully back into work. If he's still not right after a week, I'd ring the vets for advice x
