I've never seen anything like it!

She had a huge moult about 6 weeks ago, I don't even know where all the hair came from, she wasn't that hairy to begin with! Then these super thick, super fluffy patches came up on her bum, they're very bizarre - the hair's so thick it's a struggle to get down to the skin

Reminds me of the childrens book about a saddleback pig whose saddle had slipped: he was called saddlebottom, and shortened to saddlebum by mean farmyard friends

If its any consolation a friend's mule (the one in my siggie) grows a thick stripe of coat along his belly and doesn't shed it even in the hottest of the Spanish summer

Ha, that's what my donkeys look like in summer when losing the last of their winter coats

maybe its her winter coat? perhaps she gets a cold bum, abit of a random answer but prince is in a standard rug and has a fluffy neck where its not covered.

Great, so she's either part cow, part pig or a mule

Maybe there's a draft at bum height in her stable

is she otherwise ok in herself?
that kind of supr thick mat of hair is what I have clipped off a few cushings pones but obv all over!? she's a baby too isn't she?

She's 2, yes. Apart from being lame on all 4 legs, she's great

She's seen the vet 5 times, and been in to the surgery, in the last 3 weeks, and everyone comments on her unusual fluffy bum, but no one seems concerned?!

well I wouldn't worry bout it then, she's just trying to worry you a bit more, or concerned you are sending her north for a winter hol
