Appeared overnight - horse is turned out with company, so could be a kick, but no obvious marks around it and he is the only horse unshod out there.

I have put witchazel & arnica on it (as was running late this morning) Will trot him up later and hose it to see if that reduces swelling any further. He is having his back done later, so will see what back lady thinks!

Any other ideas?

Any thoughts gratefully received. We've gone through a lot of injuries with him, but this is a new one to me.

Hi Vetwrap,
My daughter's young Connemara (living out, with others) had a very similar soft fluid swelling between his front legs, appeared overnight, no kick or bite marks, no heat, not sensitive to touch, didn't appear to be itchy. Was about 4 inches across, oval shape, and was there for 4 or 5 days then gone.
Would be interested to know what others think it may have been,
Angiek

It's still there and there are no wounds at all around it. I wondered whether it could be done by some kind of strain? It doesn't seem to bother him at all and I am sure that it will go down over time.

Personally - and with him being so fine skinned - I would have thought that I would have seen indication of a kick, or a head if it is a reaction to a bite - but there is nothing.

He is going back to training tomorrow. Fingers crossed it is not something problematic. At least where he is going is closer to the vets...

Hi the TB i ride has got a fluid filled lump just above his knee. Doesnt have any heat and causes no pain. he enjoys it being massaged and we have been rubbing pile cream into it to reduce swelling (odd ino but it does work). His doesnt affect his movement and was from a pulled tendon when racing.

I'd go with an insect bite. They don't all have heads. A few years ago my mare sprouted a fluid filled pendulous sack (looked like the dog's bits!) hanging from the folds of skin between her front legs and her chest. There wasn't a mark on her higher up so I don't know where she was bitten. The fluid will always go to the lowest point it can. After several weeks of zero improvement, I started treating her with homeopathic apis mel and it was gone in 3 days.
