Has anyone had any experiance of Fluid on the oesophagus.
my friends pony was diagnosed with this yesterday, and while she awaits prices for treatment from her vet, she wondered if anyone had encountered the same thing.

Thanks.

was it caused from choke?? it can cause Pneumonia, treatments all differ, try googling Pneumonia
in horses and Fluid on the oesophagus in horses

no i dont think so. a bulge along the ponies neck aopeared whilst living out over summer. vet advised to keep her out at grass, but is now wondering wether she should be fed from a height instead to make her raise her neck.

id suggest not feeding from a height its actually very un natural for horses to eat with their head above ground level, may be watch the pony eat pay attention to the under neck is anything getting stuck??, fluid should normally clear itself unless there is a blockage some where

thanks for that advice.

it is really strange to watch her eat, you can see her food going down.

my friend is waiting to here back from her vet today.

If the horse has megaoesophagus, where the oesophagus becomes dilated, then feeding from a height is good as gravity helps the passage of food, so follow your vets advice. Some people find that feeding horses on the ramp of a lorry with the food at the top so the front legs are raised is useful in managing these cases.
