Just wrote a very long, detailed post - then it got deleted??

So in short - all of my horses with black legs are COVERED in fly bites.

They are fed garlic, wear masks and rugs and have their legs sprayed.
I cant always get them in out of the field as i work shifts.

Would summer fly cream work on there legs?
Any other suggestions?

We use (I'm sure) a sweet itch cream on the chestnut mare who is VERY sensitive and comes in covered in lumps and bumps - she too has garlic, fly spray and a fly rug on and nothing works!
However, this cream (its very greasy I'll warn you!) we put it on her and a horse fly landed on her...and just took off again! And this happened time and time again :) I'll get the name of it tomorrow and let you know, 'cause its escaped me at this moment in time!

Are you sure they're fly bites? I'm in Wiltshire, and we have really bad problems with tick bites, but only on the horses with black legs. They're covered with a yellowish crusty scab, and I've never found anything that really works to repel them. They also get them on their bodies, but the tick stays on the horse, whereas on the legs they just seem to bite them and then drop off again.

Hmm possibly but have never seen any ticks on them at all - not even on their bodies etc.

I will have a closer look - im going to wash all their legs tonight in tea tree and aloe vera and spray them till the bottle is empty!

Are there any thistles in their new paddocks? We have thistles all round the edges here and Will and Cat would decide to wade right in through them for some unknown reason their legs (and wills tummy cos he was short :p) ended up covered in what looked like fly bites. I fenced them off in the end.
