If we get the hot fly infested weather we had last year I may have to invest in some fly boots for the horses. Which brand do people recommend please? One is a 16.2 tb and the other a 17.2 wb so guessing they would need full? They are usually out 24/7 over summer, can the boots be left on all the time?

I bought the Horseware ones for my two and although they stopped the flies they made their legs hot and I had to pad the bottom of the plastic strip at the back which keeps them up so it didn’t dig into B’s heels. For that reason they didn’t stay on all the time. Size wise B had pony, he’s 14.1 and DP had cob and he’s 15hh with very slim legs. The best ones I’ve seen by far are the American ones Michen uses. I’ve never seen them in the flesh but they look like some kind netting, stay up somehow and keep the legs cool.

ETA they are called Shoofly Leggins

I had problems with the Horseware ones stiffened strip too. Mine went lumpy and dug into the horses tendons.
I liked the Shires summer socks, although i *think they have added stay up strips now too which i dont think they needed- I preferred the old design. I was using them for vasculitis rather than flies so absolutely had to have them on constantly.

Cashel Crusader fly boots, altho I’m not a fan of booting horses during hot summer weather, seemed to do the job for a very sensitive, white-legged, horse.

I use the arma, Premier Equine and Rambo and think I like the PE best. In really hot weather I don't use them and I also take them off overnight but I do find they make a huge difference and stop the constant stomping, which I never think can be that good for their joints on hard ground as well as irritating for the horses.
