As a result of having both of his front legs shaved from below the knee to fetlock (for scans) i am worried he will feel the cold. When turning out I could pop on turnout socks and in the stable could use stable bandages but am worried about over heating the tendons. What do you think, should I just leave his legs naked inside or bandage up?

Does he feel the cold badly? My mare's just had her hind legs clipped for tendon scans and I'm just leaving them naked - I would worry about them getting too hot. But she's on box rest and does tend to stand in the banks! Maybe call your vet and see what they say?

Recent advanced research studies have proven that bandages inhibit blood and lymph flow and as a result can damage the tendons. Even when applied professionally conventional bandages and multi strap boots seriously restrict the flow of blood and lymph through the lower leg. Blood and lymph deprivation results in necrotic cell degeneration, which, like a heat lesion is not initially detected, but can cause the onset of a tendon injury. Except in cases of injury treatment bandages should not be used on healthy horses.

Ah, thankies everyone. Didn't bandage in the end but boy I DO worry! My beauty is ok, turns out the swelling I found was an old injury to the check ligament. Don't know it that makes me feel better or not, I am aware now, but don't want to get neurotic about it! xx
