Hello i recently put my rambo fly mask on my mare when she was in as she has weepy eyes from the flies.

But when i put it on her she went in to a right sulk wouldn't eat her hay or nothing was rubbing it to get it off.

I was scared to put her in the field with it on incase she hurt herself (somehow).

Would it just be a case of putting it on he and throwing her in the deep end to get on with it or would i put it on her every time i take her in so she gets used to it?

Sorry really dim stupid question but i have never used a fly mask before

I dont use them anymore as my gelding got weepy eyes with them , i *think* it was because not enough air was getting through, BUT that is just *MY* opinion.

Now i just put some fly spray on my hand and rub around his face.

Some fly masks press on the eyes and cause more trouble than they fix IMO. When I put Ted in my usual fly mask he was the same and hated it. I bought a new fly mask that stands away from the eye area and it has been fabby, although not at the cheaper end of the market!

Some horses just won't tolerate it - we have one chap that stands stock still in the field if he has a mask on and will not move an inch, so he has a fringe instead.

1st time i put one on my mare she ran about like a loon - then got bored of doing that and got down to far more important business of eating....
however - i wont use one on her now - she got a reaction from it and came up in lumps - i can't only assume it was over heating or something?!
i now use coopers neat in her ears and over her face every morning (wiped on with a cloth) and she's fine with that
