Since Sty decided to eat (yes I did say EAT) his last fly mask I now I have buy him another one. His last one was a cheapy from the local market as a temp until I bought him a decent one but now we are back at square one so any recommendations would be appriciated.
Especially from those who leave them on at night aswell, thanks.

I've got the cashel crusader - another vote from me

I used shires fly masks, which are very similar to the cashel ones, but half the price

Mine all have them on 24/7 as we have conjunctivitis in the fly population.

Thank you everyone.

CotsoldSJ - yes my boy has had a case of conjunctivitis so I bought him the fly mask and it cleared up but since he hasn't had that on it has come back because the amount of flies around at the moment is stupid. We don't normaly get many and never had a fly mask for my other pony but this year the are constantly on their eyes

My horse too developed conjunctivitis from the flies and its a been a nightmare to control, even with antibiotics. I bought an Equilibrium mask to completely cover his eyes but to be honest it actually wasn't any good for him - when i brouht him in the netting was actually stuck to his eye, maybe he'd been trying to rub it off, im not sure, but some other people on my yard have had the same problem and have gone back to using the simple string ones. I think the main thing is to keep the masks clean too as they're so close to the eye. In all honesty i've found keeping him in in the day and turning out late evening the only way to control it and even now the eye's still weeping - bloody flies!!!!!

I have a Rambo one for £8.50 that is really good - only problem is the ears are really long so they flop over at the ends and my horse gets laughed at... does the job though, stays in place and doesn't get ripped.

The newer Equilibrium ones with the more solid mesh over the front of the face are excellent. I have to have two for my horse otherwise she gets rubs, so I have an Equilibrium and a Rambo one. The Rambo covers less of the face than the Equilibrium but if my horse didn't get bitten on her face by the midges I'd be quite happy spending less than a tenner on a Rambo one!

Cashel Crusader every time. I bought the one with ears and a nose cover for my new horse as he has a pink nose and it's fab. He does get it off some nights, but I think they all will come off if they try to get them off.

Oo so many choices!

Unfortunatly I don't want to keep him in at all as he will be stabled for the majority of the time in winter so he needs as much TO as possible, so that is a last resort at the moment.
Really can't believe how much of a problem the flies are being at the moment.

Do you all find that the sizes are okay?

Cashels or the Rambo's, although to be fair, the Rambo are far better value, although they don't have the nose net, so depends on nose-sensitivity!

My horse has a large head - she takes a mixture of full and extra full sized bridle parts - and has an extra large Equilibrium mask (very adjustable compared to the Rambo) and the large-sized Rambo one (fits perfectly but not very adjustable). The Rambos do tend to be generously-sized. A huge benefit of the Cashel ones is the wide range of sizes so if your horse has an odd-shaped head or it's extra small or extra large, there will probably be a Cashel mask to fit!

I have to say that I have been less than impressed with the Shires fine mesh masks. The mesh separates from the cotton top bit within a couple of wearings. My mare has several of the old style shires masks which have a thicker mess and those have lasted several years but the new style fine mesh ones fall apart really easily.
