When I had my horses in Dubai, both of them wore fly masks indoors and out and wore fly spray.
Thankfully, I haven't needed to use either yet in Glasgow but I'm prepared

put on for the first time this year yesterday - whether it will still be on when I get to the yard tonight is a different matter entirely!
I have collected a lot of them over the years as they're always getting lost in the field (I find them eventually!) - think i've got about 6 now!

Yes definatly for the summer months, but depends where you live really - the first yard I was at had no flies but current yard they need a mask!
I've got a special one that has double velcro so comes off really easily if they where scratching on a tree, fence etc as my only worry would be that they'd get caught and be stuck there all day.

My mare rubs her head against her front leg until she gets the fly mask off. Last year I bought a Cashel one thinking she won't get this off - well I was wrong, sick of looking around the field for it.

This year she has a greenguard muzzle on with headcollar so I've put the fly fringe on, she seems to prefer this :)

My lad often has one on as he hates flies. The ponies only have them on if there are loads about. We're on the top of a hill though so don't get many flies. It's been pretty still the last couple of days so they've had a quick squirt of fly spray but we won't need to get the rugs + masks out until the end of summer. :)

Minski wears one, because of her lack of mane and tail she really struggles with the flys. We ended up having the vet out one year becuase the flys were that bad her eyes had swollen totally shut.

Kai doesnt have one. She seems to cope much better and she taught one of her boyfriends in the next field to pull it off for her. I watched her 3 times in a row, as soon as I put it on, she wander over the hedge ahd stuck her head over then he would grab it at the poll and pull!!! Flamin horses!!

mine has a fly fringe on as really not good to put mask on and then gets it off in a short space of time. My other one is not wearing anything atm but will wear a mask if she lets me!

Two of them do.
One has it on for two minutes before taking it off.
Other one doesn't have it on at all, used to but now can't get anywhere near him with it.

yep both of mine have them, i dont tend to use fly spray really as they do a good job with their tails, i do feed fly free though and the flys stay away from their face when they have eaten that as it stinks! i dont like to see them waving and shaking there heads about. particularly when they only have shade one end of the day to get away from them.

My old horse has a mask as he has very little forelock. I prefer the mask as he can wear it without a headcollar. Also I once used a fringe and over the time it took me to do two barrows of poo picking it slipped down and ended up hanging off his nose.

I was recently told by my Novice next door neighbour, that her husband wont let her put one on her Mare as it's cruel:mad::mad:. Unbelievable!!!

But that said he has called me cruel for grazing muzzles also (there horse is a Lammi case waiting to happen), im getting a bit fed up of someone with no horse experience calling me of over 20 years experience cruel!

Used one twice last year on PI but it kept making one off his eyes run so i put it down to his eyelashes rubbing the gauzy bit - so i e-bayed it! Will used coopers applyed with a sponge and he'll be fine.

My horse had an awful accident, on the first day he wore his fly mask last year. I'd bought a new Rambo one, with quite thick, white, plastic mesh. It didn't seem to be particularly easy to see through, but it was a good brand and I assumed it would be fine. It obviously was not fine because he galloped straight through a metal gate. The sun was low and shining into the gate, and the vet agreed that the fly mask would probably have made it invisible to him.

I still use fly masks, but am now extremely careful about what the mesh is like and how much visibility the horse has. I found some excellent shires masks, with a very fine mesh, and I have been using those ever since on all my horses.

My mare has a Cashel fly mask and it stops her getting a sunburnt nose too. :) She's very good and vary rarely takes it off herself. I did test it by putting it on my head ;) and I could see through it just fine, so I'm sure that she can too.

My mare has to wear a full face fly mask with a nose flap as she gets a sunburned nose. My horses have been wearing their masks for a few weeks now and my mare is in her fly rug. It is so dry and hot very early this year as are the bloody flies!

Managed to get one on my welsh D tonight - thought he maybe scared of it (velcro noises) hes only 11 months, just stood there and let me put it on him, good chap :D Thats all my horses now flied repelled up! TB is only one who wears a fly sheet aswel as shes pretty sensitive to the flies..............

A little tip, if your horses buddies like to pull ur horses fly mask off put some puppy stop chew or stuff that we put on our fingernails to stop us chewing them, its worked for my guy. The horses in the next field distroyed his in 3 days got another one put the stuff on and its stayed on ever since, just maybe dont put it near the eyes!
