Looking for recommendations of fly masks that stay on and don’t slip around. My horse is a very enthusiastic roller and really rubs his head in. Previously used shires fly mask but stopped using it when it slipped around and blindfolded him. Wondering if there is a fly mask that is “see through” the whole way around so wouldn’t matter if it slipped. Or would I be better off using a fly fringe? Thanks in advance

Have you tried crossing the straps under the jaw? . That has helped my rascal keep his on. I've found earless stay on better for us too. I'm currently alternating between Shires and Gallopoff with I'd say an 80% success rate of staying on, which is good for us!

Field safe headcollar + fly fringe? It’s what I’m using on mine at the moment. He doesn’t need a headcollar on to catch him, it’s just to hold the fringe on.

Is he rubbing because his ears are being bitten? I've noticed since I've started putting nettex cream in mine's ears he rubs a lot less. Those little bitey black flies can still get through the holes in the ear material - I hate sewing but I think I might replace the ears with ones made out of Snuggy material. (since I have so many destroyed rugs to choose from!)

I’ve just tried a PE one for a horse that was removing his often. It’s really pretty good. I’d had some years ago and they didn’t last 5 minutes but this one is only off to wash every week. It’s a really nice shape and sits off his eyes as well.

I've got PE as well, the lycra ones with mesh ears and mesh bug-eyes. It even stays on the yearling! (most of the time). Anyway I was impressed with them and I think they were only about £18 aech.

My neds could both shift their equilibrium fly masks and were often to be found with at least one ear cover dislodged, or the whole fly mask removed and lying in a heap somewhere.

Neither horse has managed to shift their Rambo beekeeper fly masks which they wear for 22 hours a day. Best eye clearance, too. They like them.

Excellent product, got all ours in these for the past two summers and no issues. One could roll for the Olympic team, altho more body and neck than head he’s focussed on.
If they ever did become dislodged, there’s no straps or fastenings to catch or cause injury, and I think they would probably pull free of the horse’s head quite easily because of the Lycra elasticity. Having said which, if you’ve got a determined head-stand horse, might not find anything to safely withstand that!
Rinse through with minimal soap every night, they dry very quickly.

I bought 2 Harrison Howard masks off Amazon recently and they have been amazing at staying on, the 4 year old loves pulling Chester's off but so far stayed put!! Cheap too!!
