My veterans really struggling with these flies. He wears a mask morning til night but the mesh seems too close to his eye (it sort of naturally rests in underneath his eye) so somehow the flies are still irritating him. His eyes are swollen and weeping. Ive tried numerous masks, all the same. He has a wide forehead but a neat head (luso x TB so arab sort of head). Help!! Im looking at the lycra type masks - LeMieux and Premier Equine look like they have plenty mesh over the eyes, are they good??

Sorry also don't use lycra masks but similarly had success with Shires Flyguard working well on my friends welshie-looking goggle eyed boy. Plenty of clearance!

Lycra mask had the eye bits totally in the wrong place for any of my horses. I agree that Shires is good but size up if in doubt.

Another vote for Shires, I bought this one for the shetland and was very impressed with the eye clearance.

I've struggled to get one for my cob who has a comparatively short but very wide face, in xf browband and 6" bit. I was so pleased with the shetlands I ordered an XF one for him, it's not too long and gives him loads of eye clearance.

I bought a lycra one which was shires I think, it had decent eye clearance was something like £14. But the horse I am breaking lives across the fence and kept pulling it off ?? first day on I had to sew it in 8 little bite holes, ill keep that for riding as the vision through it is great … so I then had a spare one which was an ebay cheapy and its actually ok, just the vision through it isnt the best

Not Lycra, but Shires are good for eye clearance.
I wouldn’t recommend Harrison Howard anymore (I used to love them), because the last few I’ve had have sat really close to the eyes, not sure if they changed the shape or something!

Oh dear, its actually a shires one hes in now! I cant go up a size either as the velcro is already ats its least

Are you sure it's not too big? If I put a bigger one on Ludo I think it might sit closer to his eyes, not further away.

I also use Shires.

Oddly, the cob sized ones I ordered this year are a tad smaller than the ones I have from previous years ? I always use the nose fringe ones.

Really urgent? ???
I should have shares in Hope Valley Saddlery ???

Yes, really urgent unless I wanted my horse to be kept in full time until a mask arrived. I didn't, so I bought the only one available, but it turns out I'm very pleased with it and I'd buy the same one again in future. Hope Valley are on site where I livery, so I was able to get him back out without missing a day.

I think that the beekeeper rambo vamoose fly masks have the best eye clearance. The cob sized fits my full size horses. And the full size is generous. The hoop keeps well away from eyes.

I have used the Lemieux lycra and the eyes are reasonably spaced out, and mask fairly hard to remove, not many full sized in stock though. Other lycra designs / brands I have tried, mesh has been too close to the eyes.

So I've thought about the beekeeper masks, but can you still get a halter on and off over them easily? As in without unbuckling for removal? Just unclipping the throat piece and halter over the head.

Don't want to make more faff for the YO and staff, mainly.

I use the Rambo bee keeper style fly masks which give very good eye clearance.

Horseware Rambo Plus Fly Mask - Silver/Purple (hopevalleysaddlery.co.uk)

Just seen that someone else has replied about them whilst I was typing my reply and yes, you can get a headcollar on over them. In fact I find it easier to unclip the throat piece and slip it off over their head.

My more dainty 16.2 is in the cob size and the others, including a very large headed horse, are in the full size.

I can, it does need to be generous sized. I used a full headcollar on largest hole settings and it was fine over top. I would say might need to let headcollar out a hole or two.

My 16.3hh took cob size in Rambo beekeeper mask, as think come up large. My 17hh large headed horse just about managed full but was generous.

Good to know, the halter has 2 or 3 holes it could be let out.

He's usually in cob sized stuff, but is often in the middle or has a few full sized things for his head. So maybe the Cob wouldn't be too big. This horse spends his life living in between sizes in almost everything ??‍♀️

think cob was fine for my horse that took cob too. But full was to big for a standard full head. But full was good for extra full head IME.

Rambo beekeeper style. My 16.1 MW WB and 16.3 chunky headed ISH are both in large....they do look huge and unwieldy but do the job really nicely

My mare has a massive head, really massive- I have tried all the major brands to no avail, in desperation I bought an XL Bridleway one, perfect and less than £15! Highly recommend for the equid with larger head
