Noticed that there were lots of flies around Monty's and the shetties ears this morning

Either the flies are out early or those two smell

Anyone else noticed flies about?
Anyone using fly masks?

My instructor has a sweet itch mare and although she's not dug the Boett out yet, she did say yesterday that the midges were awful yesterday. Went to do mine this morning and they were COVERED in flies, I didn't put masks on as I don't like them getting wet (wet head, eugh) and the babies won't keep theirs on, but I did put tons of fly cream in their ears and under their bellies. My mare quite liked having fly gel rubbed into her undercarriage

Spring is here - warm and wet!

We have loads of midges here already, but I cant bear to see my boys in fly masks so early in the year, so I have smothered them in repellent!
The livery is in his fly mask already.
I am hoping for more frosts to kill the little beggars off for a bit longer!

My boy normally lives out, but yesterday I had to bring him in as he was charging around the field like a maniac. I could only think it was flies causing him to do this. Was also wandering about putting fly mask on but decided not to as it's so wet. He seemed fine today.
