So I arrived at the yard this morning to find this

This fly rug has been worn no more than 3 times!

so now I need some recommendations for something that is clearly slightly more Sam-proof!

He has the silver mark todd rug as well, but is so narrow on the chest he rubbed him silly! but he never managed to rip that one!

Hiya I have a horse that likes to do this but only to certain colour rugs haha the zebra print fly rugs are meant to be really good I know I few people with them

I'm put off by the coloured rugs because the black will attract the sun and make him warmer! hes a pretty warm horse as it is! but thanks for the suggestion

Whoops :D too funny!

Can't help as I use Amigo fly rugs and mine aren't rug trashers :)

hahah he's never been a trasher before! its a JHL rug and it does feel like really thin material! I got it in a half price sale! I'd have been really pee'd off if I'd paid £50 for it! at least I can laugh at him now

Do you think he was trying to get rid of it because he was too warm? Just a thought. Ive got a lovely white Amigo fly rug which fits mine like a glove but I cant bring myself to put it on him as he always feels so warm as soon as I try it on. I spray well but he does get buzzed by the horrid little critters, you just cant win sometimes can you!

I have a Rachael Kelly one for my youngster, rug fits lovely but the neck is far too small, and it's fixed unfortunately. It's already got a hole in the neck, she'll need a new one come spring.

My older pair have Rambo rugs - the ones with detachable necks without ear holes. They're tougher and have lasted well on my cob who trashes everything. We got them in the sale but I'd say they're worth buying. I think I'm going to fork out for one for my youngster next year.

I have a premier equine one that has lasted really well. She is in it day and night and so far so good. It's meant to be a UV rug too...well my black horse is currently bleached bay so not so good for that! But seems to be pretty good quality.

Rambo - they are made of a much more robust material than most others. I've also tried PE which are pretty rip proof but didn't seem to wrap around the horse so well.

Id like to bet one if the others has grabbed it and it's just torn like tissue paper. From experience, and I've had most of the rugs over the years, some rip a lot easier than others. In my mares field, we NEVER used to get any ripped rugs, very settled herd, horses been together for years, then suddenly, a new horse was introduced, and bingo! rugs started getting ripped on a regular basis! I've watched this mare and what she does is come up behind slowly to lull them into a false sense of security, then she grabs their bottom and in the process, rips the rug. The tougher rugs stand up to it no problem, but the thinner, fly rugs, or 600 denier turnouts just rip very easily. Some people have started spraying liquid cribox on to the rugs and this seems to have cured it! Don't get me started on the geldings though lol!

If you're after cheap in case it gets destroyed, have a look at the Equidor range, all of my horses have at least 1, they come in various colours and start at around £24
