Fly rug for big necked horse

Any suggestions for a cresty stallion?

He has worn Mark Todd rugs in the past but now he looks like the incredible hulk bursting out of it!

I don't want to go the next size up as the rug itself fits fine. So would it be better to buy a seperate neck cover and rug or are there any rugs which are a better 'fit' for the manly shape

Needs to be fairly durable as he is a bit of a thug and will whip it off and kill it if given half the chance!
 
Don't get the Amigo, I bought one for Osk who has a big neck and it strangles him.

The Derby House own brand ones are quite good for the money, friend of mine has them for both her horses including one with a big cresty neck and they seem to fit well.
 
Thanks, was thinking about the Amigo so will steer clear. Have seen the DH ones they have a couple of styles - you don't happen to know which one your friend has?

I have also bought the Weatherbeeta for Diva and it is the worst fitting rug I have ever seen on her so that's another one struck of the list, it wasn't cheap either

Not sure about the style. It has a belly flap and lots of velcro tabs that go up the neck.

The best fly rug I've ever had was a Bucas one that came with a horse I had on loan a few years back. Fabulous rug, but they are super expensive to buy.

I have had the same neck problem with my Shire x Tb mare...her neck is rather muscly, and cresty, so she physically doesn't fit in the Weatherbeeta or Rambo Combos.
She's around a size 6'9" in rugs: I bought her a 7ft Rambo Protector (the one that's about £75 without the Permethrin in it) and it fits perfectly.
A 6'9" would have fitted too, probably, but she's 4 so still growing, hence the larger size.
I've had these rugs for my other (normal necked!) two, and find that they last quite well, and are easily washable in a normal washing machine if they get greasy.

Thanks S, have added that to the list too. I have had a nightmare with neck covers rubbing and now his mane is just starting to re-grow I don't want to lose it all by having a too tight neck cover again.
 
I use a masta the one with the seperate neck and belly and I have always found them to be very good dont like the all in ones as the rub my horses mane. have had them on lots of different horses ranges from tb to suffolk x
