Fly Rug for Riding for Kirsty5575

hehe, Thanks, I knew I wasnt looking hard enough!

it's quite expensive isn't it, surley they can't cost all that much to make, it's hardly any material they are using! I don't know why people would charge that much, but it is a good idea to have one and in the long run would save you heards of money because you wouldnt be buying the fly spray, I may hunt around for some cheaper ones and if all else fails, give it a go!

If I do I shall let everybody know whether it's worth it or not

A friend of mine reckoned her mum, who is seamstress could probably make one. If you were clever like that perhaps you could make one out of a normal flyrug - not sure how though but there must be someone out there with an idea

you'd get the fly rug and either saddle up over it or cut it down the middle where the saddle would go, hem both raw edges and add loops or velcro to attatch to the D rings or girth. You'd have to take each raw edge in a little to compensate for the saddle going in between, but yes, i recon one of those would be pretty simple to make.

My friend made one for her horse out of an old fly rug, and this year, when there was an unwanted fly rug going free up at the yard, she made one for me

She modelled them on the waterproof bum covers we have. I like to think we look a bit like medieval chargers when we go out in them (looks a bit like silvery chain mail, honest!), although I suspect that isnt too near the truth
