So my mare’s horseware Rambo Hoody needs to be replaced so I’m looking for recommendations please!

I quite like the hoody and tempted to buy again but there are so many “new technology” fly rugs that my mind is a little blown haha

One downside with the hoody is that it is a bit heavy, although the thick material helps stop the horse flies! It is also even heavier if she gets caught out in a shower.

It’s the horse flies I need to fight as she does react badly to bites.

So, zebra patterns, built in fly repellant (vamoose), or any other recommendations?

Spotted this https://www.horseware.com/product/amigo-vamoose-evolution/
Which the clever Marketing people have made sound ideal to an idiot like me haha but is it worthy the money?

Thanks all

I’ve always bought PE superlite but they seem not to do it with a belly flap anymore which I want so this year have bought an Amigo vamoose with swirly pattern, assume it will be the same effect as zebra print. It was from GS equine and much cheaper than the link you have put. Def worth a look x

If your horse is remotely chunky or cobby or wide then steer clear of the Bucas zebra fly or sweet itch rug. I bought it for mine (after using Rambo for years) and it fitted my Welsh cob terribly round the chest and shoulders. It was so tight and the breast strap was positioned really high up. Although I love the Rambo hoody I hate the design of the ear holes as they just don't stay put and can flop down over his eyes. I bought the Amigo Aussie all rounder rug and he's had it on for a good few weeks now - so far so good!

I have been wondering about the zebra rugs though... seen lots about how the pattern has been proven to confuse the flies... but I know it can be clever marketing! Same with the organs and blue horseware rug in the link... they claim the colours are most effective against flies... I’m such a marketing persons dream (and as a marketer myself I should know better!)

Would love to know if anyone uses either the zebra or brightly coloured one and if either make a difference?!

I highly recommend the Rambo Fly buster Vamoose. I have a horse that went through 3 fly rugs in two summers but this one is very very durable. The material is sort of like plastic so doesn't retail any water in a shower and is more of an open weave vs. the hoody. I have another horse in the hoody and I am waiting for an excuse to replace with the fly buster!
