Fly Rug Recommendations ...

I have just bought the Premier Equine Fly Buster with free fly mask. It's excellent and the mask is great too. Really good fit, nice material and deep shape. Well made and good value for money.

I use the horseware ireland ones. fit really well, don't slip much and they don't seem to get too hot (although this been much of a problem lately!)

I bought a derby house one, it was the one that went over the ears and had a belly cover. For the first week it was fantastic, but now I am really going to have to get another. It is rubbing him all over and when he walks all his hairs get stuck in the mesh and become damaged or broken and his coat now looks messy. I am sad because apart from the rubbing it has been a great rug, it keeps him cool and keeps the flies off really well and has excellent coverage and has not moved an inch. He also hasn't managed to rip it off like he usually does. he had a Rambo Sweetitch hoody last year and that was really good, but it made him very hot and sweaty. it also didn't have a belly guard and did not cover as much but it didn't rub at all and mended quite well. He did finally trash it in the end but I would certainly buy another

Cant recommend the Rambo sweet itch hoody higly enough. Mine dont suffer with sweet itch but it sems to have stopped them getting bitten and having the lovely swellings under their belly etc.

Premier equine bugbusters, half price in their sale £34.99, I was amazed by the quality value and fit I highly recomend, plus they are shower proof, as tested by my two the other Friday when it rained solid all afternoon and instead of being greeted by poor horses in soggy fly rugs they were happily grazing away bone dry from head to toe.

I have the Mark Todd softmesh and found it very good.I did have the Masta fly rug but found it slipped all over the place quite badly because the material if quite shiney and it was a stiff rug.

Another vote for Mark Todd - we bought one last week for our chestnut mare who was coming in like braille every night with that many bites she couldn't be girthed.

Toddy rug has belly band and she's had nothing since she's been wearing it - bought it on ebay for £49.99

I use Rambo Protectors for my lot and they are fab. They keep them nice and cool in the sun and don't rub or slip. Would definitely recommend them!!

Thank you all for your input

I am deciding between the Amigo and the Mark Todd - as I have experience of these rugs.

Cant afford the Rambo ones lol!

Anyone else's horse terrified of fly masks??? Mine is ! I am putting him in it for about and hour a day in his stable to try to get him used to it. He is a terrible wimp though........

Nope! I bought her a mask, she rolled in wet soggy horse poo with it on and it now needs washing lol!

Have you tried a fly fringe?!

Mark Todd all the way - Rocks is allergic to flies so he has to have his entire body covered - this rug has a belly flap, neck cover and a cap like thing with ear holes - and you can buy seperately the mask that goes with it. It's also got sun reflecting thing on it so Rocks actually comes in cool as a cucumber while all the others out naked are boiling.
