Does anyone remember the Mark Todd fly rug that came out about 10 years ago, made of a stiff plastic-y mesh? Had a stretchy fabric section at the base of the neck?

I would love another like that - does anyone have one stuck in the back of a cupboard, or are there any currently on the market?

No.

The one I have is a very coarse weave mesh - the holes are probably 1mm. It feels like a plastic coating on the mesh itself, and it's quite stiff to handle, but moulds to the horse (presumably with body heat). It's also cream/beige.

Not seen on of them for years! I have the Ultra Combo but the one you are looking for is very like the Rambo Protector

I have one of the Protectors and it's not sufficiently generous in the shoulders..... this horse is 17.3hh.

It's a real pain. He can't wear any soft mesh rugs as they slide down his neck and get jammed on his throat.

Size wise I can't comment as such but I found the same problem with softer stretchy fabric fly sheets and have found two others which have solved the issue as they are a more ridged mesh.
Premier Equines superlite and a more budget but the same mesh is Derby house's Elite fly stopper.
They don't move.

Have a look at the Kensington protective sheet as it is very similar and fit my chunky connemara as well as my less chunky warmblood :)

Have a look at the ones sold by Shadow Horse. The fabric is what I think you are describing. They aren't cheap but I've had mine 3 years and it hasn't torn yet.
