Morning :-)

Can anyone recommend me a fly rug with a belly flap.. please?

Yesterday I purchased the Rambo protector (with Vamoose) in his usual size but it is MASSIVE! I'm not sure the size down is going to be a good fit either. Reading some reviews on here I'm not sure the Vamoose is worth it too! Lovely rug otherwise....

Thanks in advance

Love the Mark Todd one I have, fits really well, has a good belly flap and the neck is long enough so that it covers well. I have a couple and one is now on its 4th or 5th summer and is a good as new!

Second mark todd recommendation! Lovely rug - usually have trouble finding rugs that have necks to fit my cresty boy but this one is brilliant, really roomy :)

Well, I normally recommend the Derby House own brand ones - good design and cheap enough to have one to wash and one to wear. However they have been having supply and customer service problems - my livery got a Weatherbeeta from them for the same price because they couldn't get the DH one she had ordered. I'm not impressed with the WB one unless it is their cheap version - no belly flap, only one breast strap, only two velcro tabs on the neck and no shoulder darts or tab on the tail flap. It seems to be cut to the same design as any other TO rug.

Shires!! They are fab. Extra long necks so when the horses are grazing they are still covered, and the sizing covers a fair bit of their leg too. Wonderful things, better than the Mark Todd and Rambo ones we have tried!!

Mark Todd! I gave up with fly rugs as my horse repeatedly trashed them within a couple of wears. Had to get one last year though, wasn't sure about forking out given the trashing history but this one has lasted and is still in one piece. Has a massive belly flap, tail flap, elastic panel at base of neck and neck extends right up to and fastens close to his head

My pony has a masta bug rug. I bought it as an experiment as she rips most rugs but as she has sweet itch I thought I would give it a go.

Its a great rug, still rip free and my pony still has a full mane and tail. The only disadvantage is that I think it will be too hot to wear next week when the temperatures are supposed to soar!

well, my horse has managed to destroy his Rambo protector by kicking at midges on his tummy, i wanted a super cheap rug with a belly flap to try, as he can be quirky about rugs/tac/etc, before splashing out on a ££££ one.

got the equidor nevada off ebay and am REALLY pleased. sis had to do a quick sew job to make belly flap smaller (he's a TB, think these were designed for cobs!) but apart from that am impressed.
for £20 the mesh is thick and not static-y, fittings are well sewn on, even if holes dont have rivets, neck cover could maybe be a bit longer but it fits pretty well on shoulders etc, hasnt rubbed him at all.

so far, im SO impressed i dont think i need to fork out for a pricier model, very happy with this bargain :)

I have a TB too and I fear the same with the belly flaps designed for cobs!

Decisions, decisions....!

Thanks all :-)

i do have the Mark Todd as well and that seems more TB shape but it made him SO hot poor chap, doesnt seem to breathe at all, and he was sweaty it was impossible to tell if he was otherwise happy with the belly flap.

its such a thick rug it actually gets used as a LW rug in the stable now!

I've got an HY one which has a belly flap and the neck goes over the ears which I like as my girl has to be covered head to toe! My original one must be at least 5 years old now and is worn every day during fly season. The only things now starting to go is the elastic has almost lost it's stretch and the velcro is less sticky. I managed to find the same rug again on ebay but they've changed it slightly so the neck / velcro straps don't seem quite as generous so seem a little tight but are okay when she's got her head down. think it only cost £45

What I really really really want is one of the sun/shower jobbies but the neck has ear holes - yet to find one!

I have the Mark Todd Combo fly rug and it's brilliant - made from a nice, soft and stretchy material, the belly flap fits snugly and stops the flies from biting. My only criticism would be that on humid days, it's too warm to wear. On really hot days I use a Rambo Protector - not as good (IMO) but keeps my horse cooler.

Swish equestrian.. Neck cover goes over the ears, nice belly strap, huge tail flap that if u want u can tuck their tail into. They are a good price too
