The flies cause my boy to rub the top of his tail and mane so he wears a fly rug all the time at this time of year to prevent it. Its currently lashing it down and the forecast looks the same tommorrow too. Im tempted to take it off him until it dries up (its waterproof though).
Just wondering what others would do as im a tad indesisive lol :)

I'm in the same position - and have taken my pony's off. I hate the thought of him spending the night in a soggy fly rug.

We have two ponies with sweet itch, and find that if we leave them in pouring rain with rugs on they shiver, but if we take them off they rub themselves raw. The only real solution is to have a spare rug, or one with a liner (rambo sweet itch hoody does one), if not bring them in to dry off the rug... Its easy to just pull them off if they don't have sweet itch, but not if they do.

Thanks for the replies. I just went outside and took it off. It was dripping and he was stood under the tree miserable, hes now grazing happily. There isn't a fly to be seen atm and i'll pop it back on in the morning :)
