Fly rugs and fly spray

Where's the cheapest place to get one? I'm not looking for top name or quality as chances are he'll wreck it anyway, just want to give him some protection. I'm after something with a neck cover and belly cover too.

And does anyone know where I can get a decent roll on fly spray? I use homemade atm, but he's terrified of the spray and even if i put it on a cloth first he just KNOWS it's come from the big scary spray bottle

If he suffers with sweet itch the only rug even worth bothering with really is the Boett in my experience, but not cheap

Just an off the wall thought, why not put homemade in a paint tray and roller it on him with a paint roller?????? Told you it was off the wall!

Ditto eBay for rugs

Rather than a roll on use a gel / cream and a sponge. I use Barrier's fly gel and have tried naf - Barriers works better, but smells stronger so I need to either put a headcollar on or offer food (generally apply when they are loose in a field!)

What about Amigo? They are great rugs and very good value too. Or what about Premier Equine? I use Naf Deet cream on Bailey and it works well- not sure how much it costs though.

Look out for a rambo protector - I have one for Chancer and it is excellent and worth the money - I got mine for £55 in the sales.

Has a detachable neck cover, which I don't use as he has a very long mane, and excellent belly and tail protection.

Try putting the spray into a small bowl and use a sponge - might make him not associate with sprays - but they can associate the smell so no matter what you use they play up.

The vet popped up this morning and I asked him to take a look, he says it's not sweet itch, just him trying to get his winter coat out (which won't be a problem now I've clipped him out).

I was only thinking today how nicely it fitted the mare, just shows it really is ' horses for courses'
