Hello,

Do you still turn out in your fly rugs in the rain? I bought the pony one this weekend. I normally turn him out before work and he is brought in around lunch time. His fly rug is a derby house one. I'm a bit worried about him getting wet and then standing in it all afternoon. Am I being silly - it's breathable and I'm guessing would dry fast?

Cheers
:)

Unless it is pouring with rain all day i leave mine out with one on, it drys so fast in this heat at we have at the moment and its never been wet when ive been to get him in. Hasnt done him any harm so far.

We tend to leave them on in light showers, as they do seem to dry fairly fast, but we leave them off in heavy rain. Especially as the flies don't seem to be so bad then :)

Rambo do a waterproof liner that fits onto their Sweetitch Hoodies that fastens with velcro on the chest. Not sure how it fixes to the back of the rug but may be an option for you if your want your horse to stay dry. My friend uses them for her horse and swears by them.

I leave mine on. They dry v quickly, infact they seem to barely get wet even in alot of rain. If I left my mares off then she would get so itchy - has sweet itch, and it is far too hot and muggy for a t/o. So she has hers on 24/7 - no harm what so ever!

If your horse has sweet itch DO NOT take them off when it rains - the minute it stops the midges are out with a vengeance!

If the horse is living out, and its raining and raining, with wind, we found that the horses can get shivery with their rugs on. The answer for us is to have a second rug - to swop them over for a few hours... (Ours wear Rambo sweet itch hoddies so they're a bit heavier - normal mesh fly rugs wouldn't get that wet..) Never tried the liners.

Slightly off topic, but the liners are great - they fit all Horsewear fly rugs/sweet-itch hoodies made post 2006. The liners come up small, so I use a 6'9" liner under a 6'6" rug - not sure if the rug stretched, but it's a much better fit! Just a very thin waterproof liner that doesn't seem to get hot. Having siad that, i don't normally bother to use the liner if it's just light showers!
