Are your horses ok in them in heat?

I am debating getting my 3 them but wondering how they fair in heat? When i say heat i mean normal 20/22 degrees not upto 30 like the freak weather we are due!

There seems to be a lot of flies at my new place so think they may be happier as fly spray isn't doing a great job!

Looking at the silver 1s which are supposed to reflect the heat, do they work?

Thanks :)

mine are cooler in them, they do reflect the heat. They always have access to a field shelter though. They are much happier when not getting bitten all the time!

Thanks :) mine don't have a field shelter but in really hot weather they come in during the day & would have them off

Problem I find is if/when they get wet as in occasional sharp shower, they get really clammy and heavy. I only use them on horses who don't have a field buddy to share tails with for that reason

We have changed over to nights out so horses are fine - also I use Power Phaser when I need too. It is too hot and too many flies for days out unless the lami risk ones cannot change due to intake.

I use the zebra ones keeps flies away better

My mare gets very sweaty in normal fly rugs. I found a weatherbeeta one which is showerproof and is a nice fabric that keeps her cool. Not sure what its called, I'll try find out :)

My boy is jet black and hates the flies I have a mesh rug not one of the canvas or waterproof ones. He's much cooler and happier in the rug and the mesh dries quickly after a sharp shower or light rain

I've taken P's flysheet off, even though he has SI. He seems happier during the day without it in the really hot sun we're getting right now, I still put it on in the evening though when the midgies are out and about. He's not even wearing his fly mask during the day, I've taken the hint as he kept removing it that is was doing more harm than good!

You can use any meshed rug. They absorb some sweat and they have an important function - repel flies. This kind of rugs are recommended by all suppliers of horse equipment for summer.

My lad wears the amigo bug rug silver as need one with UV protection as hes pink skinned and I find he Is cooler in it than without it and he is a horse who can sweat just stood out naked in the heat as hes a naturally hot horse. thankfully theres lots of lovely big trees in his field but I cant make him stand under them lol

I have just fitted my cob in his. Went to catch him and he was going mad with horse flies. As soon as I put it on. Calmed and chilled out. Never used one before but he seems pleased. Never knows horse flies this bad. He has a baby blue one. Was worries about him being warm but flies must be worse than maybe a little sweaty. Will see tomorrow pm.
