I have bought three fly rugs and the neck part is far too small.

I bought an Amigo and a rambo and can't use the neck part at all as they are much too small - thank gos they are detachable.

Today I bought a Saxon combo and although the rug fits fine the neck is far too small. The neck part practically garrotts my pony. Even using it with a headcollar it is too small - not that I like using it with a headcoller.

Anyone else found this?

Can you buy velcro extenda strap type things?

Yes, I have had same problem. I wonder what type of horse they use for sample measurements?!

I bought a 6'3 fly rug for daughter's horse, and could barely do the zip up. I put it on the 14.3 instead (he normally takes a 5'9 to 6'), and the zip has started to come apart at the stitching because it is too small even for him. And this chap has a notoriously skinny neck.

I have bought various brands over the last two years, and all have been either too short or too tight, so goodness knows how they work out rug sizings at the factories :)

Rambo sweet itch hoody are the best fly rugs going (IMHO) but are always small. I always buy a size bigger for each of our horses. Rambo rugs are annoying generally as they can't be adjusted due to having clips not straps.

I feel your pain!! The necks are always too small, or else the shoulders are SO HUGE that the whole rug creeps back and the poor lad still gets garroted

TAKE NOTE RUG MANUFACTURERS!! :p :D

I wish the rug manufacturers would take note. I'm fed up with ripped necks. None of them fit a cob with a neck like a tree trunk.

Try using double sided velcro to extend the strap that goes about the neck, but you're still unlikely to be able to fasten the second velcro neck fastening (the wider velcro bit if there is one) which must be intended for a stick thin thoroughbred.

i have a derby house fly rug and i think its ok just recently its started to get a little tight but as its on velcro i can loosen it up :D

the rug itself is good quality i have only had to do a repair once this season and its holdin well (crosses fingers tightly)

Nicky:D

All the time! i don't even bother with them any more, body is usually fine, iv yet to have one with a neck that fits, iv given up!
