Fly Rugs

Just wondering, do people leave their fly rugs on their horses at night or do they take them off and just put on in the day time?

Sometimes mine will just have them on in the day but tonight left them on as flies were still out at 9!!

My horse is out at night, in during the day so she wears hers at night, and her fly mask.

Mines out 24/7 and lives in his all the time (flies are so bad right now!). Only time he has it off is when its very hot and muggy. Lots of others at the yard are doing the same

Thanks, sometimes you see horse/ponies covered in flies and you just feel for them. I have a friend who doesn't agree with fly rugs which just makes me laugh as i know that my horse would rather have a fly rug on then be bitten and attacked by flies!! x

Mine wears his overnight in his box as we have flys in the stables too. Also stops him rubbing his mane.

Thanks Walrus. Sometimes if really really hot we get some flies in our stables really annoying !! x

I bought a cheapy fly rug mesh type (no hood) just to keep the flies away from his Sarcoid.Left it on overnight,next days found small holes.Few days later it was mutilated lol

Flies are at their worst during dawn and dusk. So i would suggest unless you were going to get up ridiculously early prob best to leave it on all the time if horse has fly allergy. My broodmare wears hers 24/7 but my dressage horse is in at night so only wears his during the day and has a summer sheet on in his box at night

Awww thats so annoying. If my boy wears his fly rug in a certain paddock he will tear it aswell. Little Monkey. x
