I need to buy a new fly rug. I had a Derby House one before and that fell apart pretty quickly.

The Horsewear of Ireland ones fit my Welshy's chunky shoulders best but there's quite a difference in price between the Amigo and Rambo models, and they also have fly rugs that have this integrated insect repellent stuff that are more expensive--is this a gimmick or does it work?

Out of the Horsewear of Ireland fly rug range, which do people recommend as best value for money?

Thanks!

I have a basic Amigo and it's great - only one small hole in it after its first season, which wouldn't normally be a recommendation, but Merlin is a championship level rug-ripper!

Edit to add - he comes up in lumps from midge bites and it does a good job of keeping them off him.

I started with a weatherbeeta, fell apart pretty quickly! So stepped up to the rambo sweet itch hoody which has very good coverage and is hard wearing, friend had the rambo protector which also seemed like a good rug but didn't have the same coverage down the neck, I've now got an aerborn for my other horse as I got a good deal on it, again the neck coverage is good due to the lyra neck attachment part, and it has a belly attachment to keep them off the belly, so offers good coverage there too, fit is good and the material seems to be made of good quality hard wearing stuff, but time will tell on that one!

Haven't used the rugs you specify, but for the second year my boy (3/4 shire) is in an HY fly rug for his sweetitch and I love them. Keeps him comfy, comes with a fly mask, keeps him cool, good price.
