Anyone recommend any fly repellents for sensitive skin (that work) or can recommend a recipe for one? My pony has very sensitive skin and has allergies to washing powder, some shampoos, bute, danilon, hibiscrub, deet based fly sprays...the list is endless! She spent the best part of last year with hives that blistered! Anything recommended will be patch tested obviously :)

TIA x

Like many others, I use Avon skin so soft (original dry spray) to combat midges. I'm not sure how effective it is against flies but it's cheap enough to try. Hopefully nothing to aggressive in there but she does sound very sensitive. Good luck.

I have to say were on our 3rd month of cavalesse supplement and its brilliant for skin irritation and sweet itch.....its more the horseflies we need to deter...which is prob impossible :(

I have never used anything other than citronella and swear by it- worth a thought as not expensive. I buy the liquid and then pour it into a spray bottle. So far £20 worth is lasting through the second summer and no fly bites to report! :-)

Tea tree is another common ingredient in fly sprays that can cause allergic reactions. We make our own from citronella oil/meths/few drops washing up liquid/cold tea. Works as well as anything else, no allergic reaction and very cheap!
