Really jealous of those of you who power phaser still works for, maybe it's different clans of horse flies in different areas or something. It always used to be my go to but here, even when freshly applied it's doing nothing :(

I'm going to have to splash out and try some of the others I think.
Similar here, Power Phaser lasts about 10 to 20 mins here, I used to be able to have it last an hours coaching but that was about 8 yrs ago,

Have you found anything that works since? Hoping if you have maybe it will also work on my phaser resistant flies!!

I swap between the Naff deet, deosect and TriTec.
The deosect is cheapest, my diluted spray bottle squirts merrily away just before hacking out. The deet is on the horse box, the TriTec gets used when B having a day off as it lasts longest.

I use the Naff citronella too, tho this only deters a few mosquitos it seems to do the job for little A!

Question about the Tritec - the Viovet website says not to use directly on the horse or its rugs. How do people use it?
Tritec and absorbine ultrashield both have the same instructions, but this isn't because they aren't suitable for use on horses directly, but because they don't have the correct licenses to be marketed as "on horse" sprays in the UK. They are both safe to use directly on your horse
I use ultrashield, and it works a treat against most bugs, except horseflies - and even they die if they bite a horse who has just been sprayed!

Having the best response from stripes. Still using a deet based fly spray, zebra print fly rug, and yesterday I painted stripes on his exposed black fur with watered down emulsion paint. It hasn't soaked down to the skin, and he will probably roll it off, but it confused the hell out of the horseflies. This time of year is a nightmare, as horsefly bites trigger my lad's COPD.

Thanks I'll have a look into the deet and tritec, my boy seems very sensitive to sprays so unfortunately he reacts to deosect as I've heard a few people recommending it.

I think the deosect instructions say it is only good for 24 hours and then need to make fresh batch up. Do you make more up each time you hack?
