Off to our first show jumping outing together next weekend and my loan mare gets very bothered by the flies around her ears and face.

Just wondered peoples opinions, if they do actually help with the flies or are they just for show?

Hello there! Oh Exciting, I find they do help in some cases. But you would maybe be better buying one before the competition and trying it at home first, better to keep thing calm and as normal at a show. Especially if its your first outing!

Have fun & Good Luck!

Thanks, She is actually the pro and knows exactly what she is doing! (She is the one teaching me!)
I think your right though and perhaps keep things as she knows them.
I just wondered whether they did anymore apart from 'decoration'.

:)

I dont compete but bought a crocheted fly veil for my cob as he gets really bugged by flies around his eyes and ears when out hacking. I find it does help with the flies, he doesn't mind it in the slightest and I think he looks cute wearing it :D

I bought one with ears and one without, and my daughter uses the earless one on her horse.

Back home I remember they used to tie a clear plastic bag filled with water on the roof of the stables and it would attract the flies to it and away from the horses. Well, most of the time. I have NO idea what that is about. Do you do that here, too?

hi my horse really hates flies and the veil has been a godsend! he hacks nice and sensibly now no dancing and turning himself inside out! best thing ive bought for a long while:D:D
