Just back from flyball tournament in Doncaster after a 5am start this morning. Long day but a great day in general.
My Jess ran in competition for the first time since July 2011 and helped the team to 3rd place.(seeded 6th so very pleasing) Skye was fantastic(I ran her today as OH is on a training weekend) and her team was 1st (seeded 2nd).
Monty, on the other hand, although he ran well, was an absolute pain whilst waiting for his races. I have some work to do on his attention to me. (note to self----lots of homework and any ideas welcome please)His team was seeded 4th and came 3rd.

I am just so pleased with all the dogs but especially Jess. It was so heartwarming seeing her doing the sport she loves.

And on top of this I have met Dizzy Kizzy. The first forum member I can now put a face to. It was lovely to meet you and sorry we didn't get more time to chat, but I was racing Jess at the time.
Hope you had a good day and a safe journey home.

Sounds like a good day. Read that post and thought maybe you were in Yorkshire but I see you're not! I am considering trying my hand (well, my dog's paw anyway!) at flyball in the future. She is almost 12 mths old now and I fancy agility or fly ball. She is very ball-obsessed naturally anyway so thought this could be something she'd pick up very well.

Do dogs have to have certain traits to pick up flyball? I would like to have a go at it as she is some sort of kelpie cross so I reckon she is of the right 'type'. Her only vice is she is reactive with other dogs on the lead and bloody noisy when she wants a ball! I think when she is focussed on the ball though she is not bothered about any other dogs. She is not aggressive with other dogs, she's just nervous and deals with it but making out she's a big vicious (and loud) hound.

Would this be considered a problem for her doing flyball?

I'll read replies with interest! Mine too (lurcher girl) is ball obsessed and I've had several people suggest flyball. I'm in Otley so will be very interesting to hear if you come up with any groups.

Lady25 and KirstyI have a look on British Flyball website. There is an icon to click on to find teams in your area. Jess was funny with other dogs and people but flyball has really worked for her. When we train in the summer before we start training all the dogs are allowed to have a free run around the field and socialise. Sounds mad but it really works. They are supervised, obviously
Dobie girl--yes i am thrilled with them but the best part is that they enjoy it so much. And it's good exercise for them (and me)
