So myself and Wibble headed off to Darley Moor in Ashbourne, Derby on Friday afternoon to set up camp for a weekend of flyball - our FIRST COMP!
Arrived about 9pm, pitched the tent, and headed off to pick up a takeaway! I had no idea how Wibble would react to having to sleep in his cage in a tent, but bless him he was good as gold! Settled down lovely and slept all night - which is better than me!
Our club had 2 starters teams racing on Saturday, and 1 open team racing on Sunday. My starters team was very much beginners, with the other 3 dogs in the team only having raced once or twice, and obviously it was Wibble's first. I was petrified I'd let everyone down and just imagined him running around everywhere, escaping, causing havoc etc.
The other starters team is better established, with some lovely cross overs etc.
Mid-morning came, and it was time. Walked Wibble up to the rings, and the noise was deafening, not sure who was louder, dogs barking or people screaming! We were on the side line, on standby ready to get in straight away for the 2 minute warm up that you're allowed. Did one run back from the box, and managed to do a quick full team run. Went well! We won our first race
Wibble was a superstar! No escaping, no running around like a loon, just shot down the line, perfect box turn, shot back again! Was SOOO pleased with him!
He kept on performing like this all day and was absolutely brilliant! We lost a few races against some rather good teams, but didn't care really - it was his first time, and just wanted him to get used to the environment!
We ended up coming 4th which I was really chuffed with, the other starters team came 3rd and our open team won
All in all, a very good weekend! What's even better is that he's only been doing it 6 weeks, and has his name down for the British Flyball Champs in August already
little superstar in the making!
Next stop, Imber Court 20th-21st July
anyone else going?
Will post photos later when I can get them off my phone!
Also met Goya off here - was lovely to meet you! How did you get on?
