So myself and Wibble headed off to Darley Moor in Ashbourne, Derby on Friday afternoon to set up camp for a weekend of flyball - our FIRST COMP! Arrived about 9pm, pitched the tent, and headed off to pick up a takeaway! I had no idea how Wibble would react to having to sleep in his cage in a tent, but bless him he was good as gold! Settled down lovely and slept all night - which is better than me!

Our club had 2 starters teams racing on Saturday, and 1 open team racing on Sunday. My starters team was very much beginners, with the other 3 dogs in the team only having raced once or twice, and obviously it was Wibble's first. I was petrified I'd let everyone down and just imagined him running around everywhere, escaping, causing havoc etc. :( The other starters team is better established, with some lovely cross overs etc.

Mid-morning came, and it was time. Walked Wibble up to the rings, and the noise was deafening, not sure who was louder, dogs barking or people screaming! We were on the side line, on standby ready to get in straight away for the 2 minute warm up that you're allowed. Did one run back from the box, and managed to do a quick full team run. Went well! We won our first race :) Wibble was a superstar! No escaping, no running around like a loon, just shot down the line, perfect box turn, shot back again! Was SOOO pleased with him!

He kept on performing like this all day and was absolutely brilliant! We lost a few races against some rather good teams, but didn't care really - it was his first time, and just wanted him to get used to the environment!

We ended up coming 4th which I was really chuffed with, the other starters team came 3rd and our open team won :) All in all, a very good weekend! What's even better is that he's only been doing it 6 weeks, and has his name down for the British Flyball Champs in August already :) little superstar in the making!

Next stop, Imber Court 20th-21st July :) anyone else going?

Will post photos later when I can get them off my phone!

Also met Goya off here - was lovely to meet you! How did you get on?

Really please you had a good time. I watched Wibble in a couple of races and he looked really good, Well done on 4th place.

My dog Monty had a bit of a wobble in the morning. For some reason he decided to run out in the blue lane. No idea why, he hasn't done that since he first started 2 years ago. He was back to his brilliant self in the afternoon, thank goodness. Team was 5th
Skye ran well. Her team was 3rd.
It was a super venue I thought.
Maybe see you at the Champs at Catton. We're off to Mapledurham then Anglesey before the champs.

Aww thank you :) our team captain did have a few comments asking how long the terrier had been doing it as he looked good, and were shocked when they were told 6 weeks! :) *proud mummy moment* :D

Ah well done you!

Yes, thought the venue was fab! Bit windy Friday night camping but not bad :)

Well done loopiesteff, sounds like you and Wibble did really well.

Goya, I'll be at Mapledurham, so come say hi, I'll be camping, so will be there all weekend, it should be Star's 1st open competition.

just remind me which team you are with. I'm a Molten Magnet.

I'm with Essex, I think Skye will be running with Essex Echoes and Star with Essex Express, but just look for a blue Border Collie with lots of naughty spots (Skye) or a lilac Border Collie with lots of naughty spots (Star).

Monty is a Molten Marvel and Skye is a Molten Monarch (Unless the TC changes the teams between now and then.
Skye is the one eyed tri collie and Monty is the noisiest and the one who runs around the run back area and won't come back to me. lol
We are working on his coming back to me in the Flyball arena. He's fantastic in all other situations but gets a little excited when running. We're camping Fri and Sat so maybe we can meet up?

haha! I thought I was going to have that problem, but amazingly Wibble behaved  not sure how he'll be in an open ring with no netting though...could be fun!

Yes, definately meet up, I'm camping Fri & Sat too.

My Skye bounces around me with the ball and won't be caught too, she is just out of reach, everyone laughs at her, especially when she's been start and someone has a false start and they're waiting for me to catch my dog! Although, she's usually good at going in to a down when told so I can get her if she needs to be rerun if she's 3rd dog and had a fault.

That's my big problem--catching him if I get a fault. Drives me demented lol. Mind you he usually runs last dog so I have to be really careful not to get a light.
maybe get in touch before next week and arrange a meet up?

Here's a few pics. Unfortunately none in action from the comp, only the 2 of him having a power nap! The other photos are from training :-) he is now on the box without the front jump :-)
