Hi everyone

It's been a while.... My beautiful rott bag Cara is doing really well. A friend and I are taking the pooches for a flyball introduction on Tuesday! Anyone have any idea what to expect? Are there many rottis in the sport? I know nothing about it :)

All help much appreciated! And here's some pictures of the grown up puppy!

Dizzykizzy - if the breed doesn't appear on that drop down box does it mean there aren't any registered dogs of that breed doing flyball?

It depends on the trainer what you will do. When we train beginners we always start with run backs. A handler holds the dog while you take a ball, run down the "lane". The dog is released just as you reach the end and you call him like mad and throw the ball for him to chase and collect.
Then we start to train the dog to collect the ball. Take him to the first jump near the Flyball box, the boxloader will drop/toss/ roll a ball. encourage the dog to collect the ball then run like hell down the lane calling the dog.
It is progressive depending on how the dog takes to it and how "ball mad" they are. How old is he? If he is under 12 months then you really shouldn't be doing the jumps yet.
There are several Rotties in the sport.

They might be registered but not have any points yet :-)
Which breed were you looking for? If it is an unusual breed like ours I had to have it considered by the committee before she was added to the board. She's the only one in the UK at the moment doing flyball.

Dizzy - Thanks for the link i will take a look! I am excited sbout giving it a go!

Goya -She is almost 18 months.... She has done agility basics as well as a variety of other things. She will retrieve and has done some (very small) jumping. I wouldn't say she is ball bonkers but she will do anything to please and is overly enthusiastic about life. We are going to have a go for a bit of fun and see how we go.

Sounds like really good fun! Goya/emm0r, where would I find out about where he can go to learn? He's too young ATM (5 months) but when he can, I reckon he would love it!
Dizzykizzy he is a Portuguese Water Dog!

Ah my old boss had one of those with her bum clipped out! :)And I have no idea. I went for a walk with my friend last night and she rang me to say she had booked us a session! Haha I am far too unorganised to know how to find someone! :)

what is your location? Check the BFA website for teams in your area. If you want any advice as to which are good ones feel free to pm me.

I got totally addicted very quickly. It is a fun and in the main, a very friendly sport

Thanks Goya - we are in South Bucks. Will have a look at website.
Emm0r - he's not going to have his coat done like that ever!! He's show bred but we have no intention of showing and I much prefer them in a retriever trim so just about 1-2 inches long all over. So far I have to say he is the MOST fantastic dog, much as I adore my old boy (Rott) the pup is much easier and less challenging than the Rott was at his age!

I am North Bucks/ South Northants if you had any recommendations this way. I am open to suggestion :)

She's looking great. There were 2 rotties at the flyball competition I went to watch, they were great though not the fastest!
I wonder how often they update that page, Pickle now has his Flyball Dog points but according to that link there are no Lancashire Heelers.

There are two Lancashire heelers with points on the data base, last updated 18th May for Pickle who had 195 points then.
I think we saw the Heeler at Bakewell? :-)

Yes me and Pickle will be at Eggborough! Hopefully our proper team will be back together cause we were missing our 4th dog at Bakewell and it was a bit of a disaster!
