Flying changes - how to start?

I have just got in from riding, spurred on here by you lovely pep's as I seem to have lost my riding mojo somewhere in the last couple of weeks...

So I decided to ride one of my horses in the school and before we got bored of circles I thought I would try and start him doing some flying changes but we got in a right old pickle! (some good counter canter tho lol!)

Ok .. someone tell how do I start training him (& me)?

2 ways i know - the easiest (although prob not 'correct' is to ride a change of rein in canter and reach the track about 2/3 of the way down the arena in counter canter. Keep the canter collected, and when you reach the corner, change the horses bend and apply the opposite canter aid. Many change automatically to better balance at this point, and you are teaching them to associate chgange of bend and application of canter aids with a lead change. The other common way is over a raised pole in the middle of a figure of 8. I'm sure there are much better explanations out there though!

Either bring back to trot and immediately ask for new lead on diagonal at X, or go over a jump (on the diagonal), applying correct bend etc.
