My rising 4 year old, Coco has been ambling happily round the track at the farm today with me on board and for the first time with NO-ONE to hold his hand. I am well chuffed, we had a couple of grind to a halt moments and drifting back towards the barn, but even when he 'napped' he was happy to be chivvied on.
Brakes are rudimentary, steering is rather unsubtle and we have a very sluggish accelerator, but I feel he is roadworthy and so we will embark on a hack tomorrow.

On a rather more crude note, is it just me - my friend observed today that I have to pee before I get on (Pre Ride Nervous Pee) which is true, I don't know whether this is just the anxiety or my fear of flying through the air with a full bladder and the potential consequences. We concluded that this also happens prior to going XC and is often accompanied by much PRNY. (pre ride nervous yawning!!)

I never need to go before I leave but when I come back from a hack I'm always absolutely busting?

Have always been told to go to the loo before xc / hunting as the consequences of a nasty fall with a full bladder aren't worth it. 'Always have a little try'. Don't you love mumsie phrases?!

Even in the summer! I've been like that years, and with bladder weakness I have to go haha so mum is now used to standing at the back door in her slippers with a bemused looking horse in hand...actually the horses don't look so bemused now because it's the norm!

I also hate it how you get in the start box before going XC and suddenly think 'oh my god i do actually really need a wee!'

PMSL I completely agree, although I think that it is imaginary.

I don't get it but I had a pony who was rather famous for it. Every time the bell went in the sj ring he had to stop for a wee. It also happened sometimes whilst counting down in the start box or at X in a dressage test.... Really quite character building when you're 7 - 11 years old....

ETS: sorry, got distracted by the weeing bit, forgot to say congratulations for the wander round the farm!

Baby sounds very good, I wish my new one was at the stage already!

I always need to pee, before a hack after a hack, before each phase eventing, my peeing is only surpasses by frankies, he pees on command before going into the lorry, pees before dressage, pees before Sjing, sometimes once we are in the ring and pee's in the XC warm up, fianlly he will pee on command before going back in the lorry to go home!

Sienna won't wee anywhere in public. She is very concerned about her dignity - I probably embarass her.
Coco was very wild & woolly when he arrived and a little bit dominant, he's chilled right out though & loves work. I still have to pick all 4 feet up & groom him without getting my teeth kicked in so not all roses

That does sound interesting. At that age I had an evil black mare who would buck for England if she had to wait for the bell. That was also an experience not to be repeated.
