Well, it has just been announced on the news that the government are considering relaxing the movement of animals around the country.

To say I'm gobsmacked is an understatement!

They are only thinking of doing what they did in Scotland which is licensed movement to slaughter houses only not farm to farm. Should help prevent a number of welfare problems with minimal risk of disease spread. Will also help farmers. I for one support it in areas well away from Surrey.

I agree with S_J, there are alot of animals that are ready for slaughter and need to be moved, you can get a licence to move animals now anyway so I don't really see a difference.

Sounds reasonable to me, but when are they going to close the bloody footpaths!!!!!!!!!!! Our yard is well within the 3km PZ and only a 15min walk from a farm who cattle were culled yesterday, yet all they have done is pin laminates to the footpath post asking walkers to find an alternative route as the path crosses grazing land, but they haven't actually closed it. We aren't allowed to move the horses off the yard without a licence, but any Tom, Dick and Tosser can walk across and onto the neighbouring farm which has cattle and sheep.

as I said on another post ...
I spent the day at my vets yesterday (after disenfecting my car and self!)and was told by the vet there they were doing it as a precaution as last time (and apparently this time) they transport the slaughtered animals down here in OPEN lorries to be burnt which is the main reason it spread last time
