Is it worth holding on to them until the market improves and owners have a better hope of receiving better money for their youngsters or do you think it will be too long of a wait?

depends on whether holding on to them for another 6 months to a year costs more than letting them go for a cheaper price. If you see what I mean.

For what it's worth I have decided to keep my yearling til next year as I just cannot find the right home for her.

I agree, finding the "right" home is always more important to me than price but as you say finding the right home seems to be as difficult if not more so than getting the price you want!
