Foal clipped today

well i have had my 5 month old foal for 7 weeks now and in that time i have had the vet out 3 times including today because he arrived to me riddled in lice and rainscald.. we have used baracade on him which hasnt worked... only because his coat was so bloody long and thick, just could not get down to the skin to treat anything.. vet clipped a small patch off on new years eve where it was really scabby but there is so much more... she said she has never seen a foal/pony/horse with such a thick coat..

Now my boy is going to think i am so cruel as he has been sheared!! He really does look like a donkey now!
 
LOL, based on the title of this thread I was WTF clipping a foal???? But thankfully I read the rest!!!! As has been said, needs must, we had to do a shetty once due to this, they are horrible little critters........!! (sorry not foals or shetties, lice that is!!!! hahaha!) Definately need a piccy of the sheared beasty!!!!

yeah he was lightly sedated.. he is normally a good boy bless him...

He does look so so silly now though, some thinning scissors are needed on the tops of his legs.. at least i can now treat him and make the little lad better..
 
my poor little man must hate me at the moment, after yesterday being clipped, had to give him his antibiotics this morning which was a nightmare, had to mix it with yogurt and syringe it into his mouth.. had the evil eye then...

Now this afternoon i decided to let him watch other horses being shod.. was asking the farrier if he was taking on new clients etc then the farrier came over to the Donkey and trimmed his feet, he stood there perfect for 3 of his feet then when it came to the 4th he was like "nope no more" had a funny fit for a few seconds then sort of had the "oh ok get it done quick" look in his eye.. For the first time of him seeing a farrier he was really good..

Think i will give him some time off now without any horrible vets or farriers....
 
Good for you. I hogged all my manes for same reason back end of last winter and neighbours were in uproar. Mine weren't good enough to clip though!
 
Well if he's put up with all that messing around and is still being a good boy it bodes well for the future!! He looks very sweet...slightly silly but sweet!! Lol!!
 
i am just glad he is not next to a main road so the public can see him as i am sure we would be reported.. he does look like a welfare case... but honestly its medical reasons lol
