Ive wormed my miniature 8 month foal today, as soon as the wormer went into his mouth he staggered about then collapsed on the floor he got up dazed and was then normal, very strange. anyone have this happen or know why.
Pushing the head up and back can trigger collapses and seizures. In a baby it could have been a stress reaction though. Be careful with using ivermectin as with miniatures you must be very careful to get the dose absolutely correct as it is known to cause seizures.
Some horses stress mechanism causes them to collapse on the floor. WB's are renknown for sinking on their hind legs when they are stressed and I remember seeing an appalling 'display' of horsemanship when a renowned trainer tried to drag a four year old down a line of loose jumping poles, the horse didn't understand what was required of it and collapsed to the floor in stress. The trainer then started wacking it over the head with a lunge whip whilst the owner wacked it from behind.
