My cob mare is currently in foal to a tb stallion. The stallion will be weatherbys registered as he has previously raced. The mare is unregistered.
I would like to investigate if the foal can be graded and who the foal would be able to be registered with but don't know where to start.
I want to give this little one the best possible chance in life and feel that a good grading or being registered as opposed to having a generic 'horse passport agency' passport. any suggestions?

Thanks

I don't really know about the gradings in the UK and I'm not sure if they work like they do over here but I'll mention how they work over here as maybe it's the same?

Here, with all of the warmbloods registries, the mare needs to be a pedigreed mare. She needs to go through a Mare Inspection with the chosen breed society. If she fails then the foal may get a copy of pedigree but won't get full breed registration. If she passes then the foal will get full pink papers to the breed registry. The foal in time, if the owner so wishes to breed her, must then take the filly once she's a mare, through the Mare Inspection or if a colt once he's a stallion, must go through stallion licencing in order for them to gain approval to breed.

Faol won't be able to go through that sort of thing as mare is unregistered and ungraded.
Am unsure if there is a society that will do grading type things for foals from ungraded/unregistered mares.
Mare's nice (at least in my opinion :D) but not eligible to be registered herself as have no details on her parents beyond knowing their type.

What about one of the sport horse registries then? I'm not sure how they work in the UK either but over here I know they are very easy for any foal who has 4 legs to get some form of paperwork :)

You don't say how big your cob mare is, but if she's 158cm or less then you could present her for SPSS grading and if she grades then her foal could have a SPSS passport that would record the mare's name and the stallion's name and pedigree. Then the foal would have as much recorded pedigree as possible. It doesn't matter if the foal is likely to go over 158cm, any foal of a SPSS graded mare or stallion is eligable for a SPSS passport :-)

The 2013 SPSS Gradings are on Saturday 12th October 2013 at Bury Farm Equestrian Centre, Mill Road, Slapton, Bucks LU7 9BT Note that mares with foals at foot (or in foal) do not need to loose jump or be ridden, and her lack of pedigree wont go against her. If you look around the site, especially at the Mares page, you'll see that all types of mare have been graded in the past :-)

More info on the SPSS on the website www.sportpony.org.uk

For the foal, the BEF Futurity evaluations may be an option - depending if the stallion is considered to be "graded" under the Futurity rules.

Mare is 15'1

I'll have a look round the website. Thanks

No advice on the original question but just wanted to say that I like your choice of stallion for your mare - that should produce a lovely type foal :)

Thanks, I'm hoping to get a decent little hunter type. Mare is TBxID cross coloured cob. Her biggest weak spot is her back legs as she's straight through her stifles. We specifically looked for a stallion who would completment her conformation. Stallion is even nice in real life and the fab thing was he is just down the road so I could visit when she was at stud :D:D

If you have a covering cert from the stallion and its from a recognised society then give the SHB a call. Thier basic identity passports can include sire breeding if a proper cc is provided. It will say cc seen but unverified. Mare breeding would obviously be blank but u would have one side of pedigree recorded for a start without spending a fortune.
