Although I haven't made a definite decision as to whether or not I'm going to keep Leo, my BOGOF foal I am wondering about insuring him. He is currently my only "personal" horse, my riding school horses, including his dam, aren't insured individually as premiums would be extortionate for them all. However, he is a bit different and I must admit I have fallen for him and I'm quite tempted to keep him and see how he turns out! So, any recommendations for which company to insure with? Previously I used Scottish Equestrian for our eventers but found them not to be so efficient lately.
Also, what value should I put on him? Obviously, he isn't an expensive, fancy foal and I'm insuring more for vets fees than replacement value. He is well put together and moves nicely. Dam is a 15.2hh ISH type with Clover Hill on her dam's side but no sire recorded, I was lead to believe his sire is a Clydesdale x cob but honestly, there is no indication of this so I'm questioning if this is the case, he looks very similar to his mum at this point with no coloured markings or feathering and is certainly nowhere near as heavy as cob x foals I have seen. Would £1k be a reasonable sum insured or too much?
